The hpc® is Southern Africa’s first elite one-stop sports facility. Launched in May 2002, the centre is the training ground for tomorrow’s sporting champions and the venue of choice for sports professionals and enthusiasts alike.
Hpc
® is a philosophy. It is a way of thinking about the profession of sports development that transcends the practical considerations of training and performance by refining them into a way of life. The Hpc® at the University of Pretoria is the first manifestation of this philosophy.
At the end of 2001 a landmark decision to expand the University of Pretoria’s success in sport into the professional sporting arena was publicly announced. This signaled the culmination of extensive research into the sports industry, considering trends and forecasts worldwide and the beginning of a long-term investment into the expertise, infrastructure and branding under the banner of Tukssport Pty (Ltd)
The role of the hpc can be divided into two inter-related parts with the first being the Long Term Athlete Development and the second is the venue to which high profile international and local athletes and teams for their pre-season / pre-event training.
The Centre boasts a school, restaurant, hotel, accommodation, gymnasiums, sport science and medical support services, Sport Shop as well as 9 Sport Academies. Last year 47 international teams and 34 national and local teams visited the hpc
®. The Centre receives at least 500 visitors per day.
