MEET THE CHEFS:
James Martin
James Martin has made a great impact since he began to appear on television in November ‘96 and has rarely been off screen since. James has presented no fewer than thirteen shows and has written a regular recipe column for Ideal Home Magazine, as well as four cook books. His latest, Easy British Food, was released at the Good Food & Wine Show® 2005. When he’s not dazzling TV audiences he’s running a popular deli or consulting for his restaurant aboard the cruse liner “Ocean Village”. James has a range of small kitchen electrical appliances with Wahl and a range of saucepans with Stellar. Company Magazine has voted him one of Britain’s most eligible bachelors.
Brian Turner
BBC Food’s Brian Turner is one of Britain’s most successful and well-known chefs. After working at some of Europe’s most prestigious hotels and restaurants, he opened Turner’s in 1983. Brian went on to become a successful television personality, appearing regularly on Ready Steady Cook and Master Chef. After the sale of Turners, he opened Brian Turner Restaurant and made a visit to Buckingham Palace to receive his CBE, awarded for his services to tourism and training in the catering industry. In 2004, Brian launched a range of sandwiches supplied around the UK. Salads and fillings have now followed. He received The Special Award, given for his dedication to the British catering industry and his commitment to various charities. 2005 saw the launch of the Brian Turner Coffee Range and the opening of a new restaurant, Turner’s Grill.
Steven Saunders
Organic maestro, Steven Saunders, earned his reputation as one of the UK’s leading chefs at the tender age of 19 when he was awarded ‘Britain’s Youngest Patron/Chef’ - a title which has never been superseded. Steven then launched The Pink Geranium restaurant and won Young Chef of the Year in 1988 and National Restaurant of the Year in 1991. 1997 saw the purchase of Sheene Mill, a 17th century watermill, which he converted into a modern, stylish restaurant, earning the award of the most fashionable restaurant outside London by Condé Nast. Steven has written ten cookery books, which have become bestsellers in Europe. He recently launched the first catering company, Organica, ever to achieve organic certification in Europe.
Antony Worrall Thompson
In 1981 Antony opened the hugely acclaimed Ménage à Trois restaurant, which was the very first in London to serve only starters and puds. From there Antony has had a fantastic career owning no less than thirteen restaurants. In 1987, he was presented with what is acknowledged as the chef’s Oscar, the Meilleur Ouvrier de Grande Bretagne. The small screen loves Antony from BBC Food’s Saturday Kitchen, to Ready Steady Cook. He’s also increasingly in demand to comment on and discuss serious food issues such as diabetes and the eating habits of children. Cook books are numerous including the best selling The GI diet. He’s currently working on an Antony Worrall Thompson range of food and off-the-shelf products.
Alan Coxon
Alan’s work output has been prolific with innumerable TV appearances, feature articles and live talk shows. In 2002/3 1.3 million viewers watched the two series of BBC 2’s Ever Wondered about Food, a social science and historical cookery show about Britain’s favorite dishes. Coxon’s Sporting Feast was flighted in 2005, where he cooked with top South African sporting celebrities in their homes, as well as Coxon’s Royal Feast in 2004 where he cooked with Royal families in Sub-Saharan Africa. He’s completed three cookbooks the latest being Ready in Minutes proudly published by Struik, South Africa. In a poll spanning across 100 countries, Alan was recently voted one of the Top 10 TV chefs in the world.
Daniel Galmiche
The charming Frenchman has all the characteristics of a successful chef: intensity, passion and fiery ambition. His career has taken him all over the world, working in highly acclaimed restaurants such as Le Gavroche in Portugal and Harvey’s in Bristol, where he achieved the prestigious award of a Michelin Star, more recently he maintained the coveted Michelin Star at L’Ortolan near Reading. When he’s not cooking in the kitchen Daniel is demonstrating at events and festivals around the world and most recently at The Regency International in Bahrain. He has a regular column for various publications and has appeared on radio and television programmes for the BBC.
