indwe magazine – March 2005

The other day I watched a sixty-five-year-old grandfather playing with his six-year-old grandson in the swimming pool. To screams of delight from the little one, the grandfather transformed himself into a crocodile in search of his prey. Of course the beast didn't have it all his own way because the little boy derived great pleasure from dunking the old crocodile, who willingly submitted himself to a great deal of punishment dished out by his elusive young prey, once again to exclamations of "yes, yes," from the little boy. When the old croc finally called it a day to retire to a cigarette and a glass of wine, the young boy voiced his disappointment with a customary six-year-old phrase: "Ah no grandpa, can we just play it one more time?"
I have known this grandfather for as long as I can remember. Through the years I have followed his very successful business career with great interest, learning much from him, and always admiring him like no other man I know. On this night I realised that the little boy is indeed privileged to have a grandfather with whom he can play, and from whom he can learn as much as I have over the years. At the same time I was once again reminded of how privileged I am to have them as my father and my son respectively.
I hope that you too are privileged enough to have parents and children who contribute to your life in meaningful ways. I realize that there are so many people in this world who are deprived of the things we take for granted. Next time you encounter a homeless person, be mindful of your own blessings before turning your back on the person of which John Bradford once said, "But for the grace of God, there go I."
Keeping in touch with my loved ones just got a whole lot easier for me. In preparing for our new 'gadgets gallery' in next month's edition, I'm 'test driving' the new i-Mate 2 cellular phone from Autopage Cellular, a mobile phone and pocket PC, along with every imaginable application, all packaged into a small, easy to carry unit. What a cell phone! What a computer! What a wonderful marriage of cell phone and Pocket PC right here in the palm of my hand. You will be able to read all about this great union in our next edition of Indwe.
Remember too, that the current issue of Indwe magazine is also published in its entirety on the South African Express Airways website on the first day of each month. Just go to www.flysax.com and click through to 'News'. You can also access back issues of Indwe from the same environment.
Enjoy the flight!
Enjoy the read!
