indwe magazine – Dec 2005

Dear Reader
Letter from the Editor – Siyabonga Memela
What a year this has been! A wonderful year, and we enjoyed every bit of it. The staff that put together the last 12 issues of Indwe are grateful to all SA Express passengers and managers. You gave us valuable feedback on our new-look Indwe magazine, and without your constructive comments we would not have reached this point. We trust that, even in a small way, we may have contributed to making your every trip an enjoyable one. And, in return, you also contributed to the magazine, constantly affirming and reminding us that our very best efforts are required to make Indwe a must-read in-flight magazine.
My guess is that we are part of a bigger group of Proudly South Africans, and friends of South African people who look back at the year 2005 and say ‘Wow! This has been a good year’. We may not have accumulated sufficient personal wealth, made enough savings, accomplished all our goals, but we have made it up to this point, a festive season.
Through difficult times, we lost loved ones and lucrative deals, missed once in a lifetime opportunities, felt betrayed and uncared for, disappointed by our children, spouses, bosses and friends. We, nevertheless, are still in one piece. Bad things sometimes happen for a good reason. One of the things that have made me survive serious life-storms, is a belief that a mishap in life provides me with an opportunity to pause and reflect. We live in stressful and high-paced times, up to the point of either forgetting or not having a moment to plan our next move.
Here is the season to pause and reflect. Simply defy your silly inner little being who always says “Christmas is just a time for unnecessary spending all that you have sweated for during the year.” Today tell yourself that you want to pause and reflect about where and what you want to be by 2010. And that you want to use this season to take a break, enjoy yourself, and gather more strength because you want to begin to work towards your goal from as early as the second day of 2006. I always find it difficult to make and keep New Year’s resolutions. But I discovered that peer pressure does work because when I share my resolution with someone else (especially my daughter) she always asks for progress, thereby becoming my sometimes unfriendly-reminder.
Enough sermon! The team of Indwe magazine wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May you please prove the flight captain wrong when he or she says “Ladies and Gentlemen we have reached our destination. You have now come to the end of the safest part of your journey.” Please drive safely, buckle up, and obey all the rules of the road. May the road be another “safest part of your journey” for you.
Meet you again in 2006!
Enjoy the read!
Enjoy the flight!
